Apollo FAQ

General FAQ
Question: Does the 2″ collar affect the 45° tilt functionality of the LED mechanism, such as causing flashing or obstructing the light beam?
Yes, when using a 2” collar with the LED module tilted at 45°, some beam obstruction and potential flashing may occur due to the deeper ceiling profile.
In angled lighting applications like a 45° wall wash, a thicker ceiling can create a tunnel effect that narrows the beam spread.
This may lead to reduced lumen output, partial beam cutoff, and increased glare.
To maintain optimal performance and visual quality, a thinner ceiling profile is generally recommended for these types of installations.
Question: Are the optics interchangeable between Apollo’s NHAPIC and NHAPNIC models?
The 25°, 40°, and 55° optics of the NHAPIC series are interchangeable with each other. However, the 10°, 12°, and 15° optics of the NHAPNIC series are not interchangeable, as they use different LEDs and optics designed to optimize light output while achieving desired beam spread. Narrow beam angles use a 6mm LES COB, while wider angles use a 9mm LES.Installation and Compatibility
Question: When should I use flanged vs. flangeless trims for recessed downlights?
Flanged trims are ideal for drywall or T-bar ceilings, where the flange covers gaps and provides a clean, defined edge around the light.
They’re easier to install and great for traditional or industrial designs.
Flangeless trims are perfect for a modern, minimalist look, especially when a seamless ceiling is desired.
They work well in drywall ceilings with a mud-in finish, creating a flush, clean surface without visible edges.
Question: When should a mud-in adapter be used?
A mud-in adapter should be used when installing flangeless (trimless) recessed lighting fixtures into drywall ceilings.
It allows the fixture to be seamlessly integrated into the ceiling by creating a surface that can be mudded over with joint compound.
This is ideal for achieving a clean, modern look where the fixture appears flush with the ceiling, with no visible trim.
It is not typically used with ceilings made of tile, stone, or other non-drywall materials.
Question: Can Apollo be used in wet locations?
Yes, for wet location environments, a lensed trim must be used.
